This year, for the first time in history, they chose two: Ultimate Gray, a cloudy-sky color, and Illuminating, a highlighter shade of yellow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/margaretdonaldsoninteriors.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Pantone.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8763\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Pantone doesn\u2019t choose their Color of the Year at random; it\u2019s a lengthy process they take seriously. To choose the color, the company hosts representatives from various nations\u2019 color standards groups for a two-day summit at a secret location in a European city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/margaretdonaldsoninteriors.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Richardson2017-355-min-1600x2400.jpg\" alt=\"color\" class=\"wp-image-8767\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>For two days the color professionals present and debate. Then they choose a color, and the color has meaning and significance. For example, 2020\u2019s color was Classic Blue (Pantone 19-4052). The group chose the color because it would \u201cinstilling calm, confidence, and connection.\u201d At the time, the committee had no way to know how important those qualities would be for enduring the next 12 months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/margaretdonaldsoninteriors.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Richardson2017-342-min-1600x2400.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8765\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe want to ensure that the colors we select reflects what\u2019s taking place in the culture at a specific moment in time,\u201d says Laurie Pressman, Pantone Color Institute vice president. \u201cWith color and context so intertwined, there really are reasons why a color family or individual color comes into prominence what it does.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/margaretdonaldsoninteriors.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Richardson2017-337-min-1600x1067.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8764\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/margaretdonaldsoninteriors.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Pantone-turtle-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8760\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Pantone\u2019s color experts comb the world of fashion, art, entertainment, travel, technology, and film to find influential patterns. The pandemic, a global shift in reframing social and cultural values, and the way our lives have changed had a big impact on their choices. The committee didn\u2019t set out to choose two colors, but realized that one couldn\u2019t exist without the other. The committee believes Ultimate Gray feels dependable, wise, and resilient.
