Recently we\u2019ve been taking you on a tour of MDI\u2019s award-winning design project: A spacious vacation home with a dreamy guesthouse, plus room for family, friends, colleagues, cousins, and more. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

We are so proud of this home<\/a>: It earned a 1st place ASID Award for its master bathroom, a 2nd place ASID Award<\/a> for Vacation Home, and an Honorable Mention for the dining room and bar. Today we\u2019re taking you through the guesthouse. Ready to pick your bedroom?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Guesthouse<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A light and bright enclosed breezeway provides access to the guesthouse, a finished apartment-style suite over the garage. The palette of the guesthouse is a bolder version of the main house living areas. Oversized industrial wall sconces provide lighting and drama.\u00a0The lounge area of the guesthouse includes a kitchenette as well as a small dining area for games and puzzles. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the living\narea, a sleeper sofa accommodates overflow guests. We chose the side tables for\ntheir mix of open and closed storage, providing places for both games and extra\nlinens. Each throw pillow was custom made by our workroom with great attention\nto detail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the guesthouse, we dropped the woodwork to wainscot height, terminating the paneling at the height of the windowsill. This solved the problem of how to address the odd ceiling and wall angles created by dormers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Guest Rooms<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of two guest rooms (each with their own attached bath), the queen guest room has a punchy lime green bamboo bed. The floral headboard fabric is repeated in the draperies, and aqua banding was added. Clear glass lamps were used for bedside lighting as they take up less visual space in a small room. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The king room\nfeatures an aqua caned bed and beautifully embroidered draperies in aqua,\nteals, and greens. The bench at the foot of the bed is upholstered in a\ncoordinating embroidered striped and floral motif. We used sisal rugs\nthroughout the guesthouse as they are inexpensive, easy to maintain, and can be\nfabricated in any size. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
