Have you ever wondered about the difference between an Interior Decorator and an Interior Designer? Do decorators design, or do designers decorate? It turns out there\u2019s a big difference and The Council for Interior Design Qualification (CIDQ) wants consumers to know. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Recently CIDQ released a new official definition of Interior\nDesigner, stating: <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe profession of interior design requires specialized\neducation, knowledge, qualification, and training and extends far beyond\naesthetic concerns to matters of public health, safety, and welfare.\nProfessional interior designers can be distinguished by their successful\nfulfillment of several criteria including Education (majority have a Bachelor\u2019s\nor Master\u2019s degree in interior design and\/or architecture), Experience (minimum\ntwo years practice in the field), and Examination (NCIDQ Examination and\nCertification which includes verifying competent application of building systems,\ncodes, and construction standards).\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
CIDQ wants the public to understand that Interior Designers have\nthe education and experience required to keep consumers safe. Interior design\nrequires an understanding of building code, fire code, life-safety, energy\ncodes and standards, government regulations, and building permits. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
