Our Design Assistant, Liz Fraser, recently visited Tulum, Mexico and a winter day seems like a good time to revel in her photos and design inspiration.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Tulum, Mexico lies on the Caribbean coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. It is famous for beautiful beaches, ancient ruins, stunning cliff overlooks, and abundant bird life. Built by the Mayans before the 1400s, this formerly walled city was known as \u201cthe city of dawn\u201d thanks to it\u2019s spectacular sunrises.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-6821\" src=\"https:\/\/margaretdonaldsoninteriors.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/IMG_0143-1600x1200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1160\" height=\"870\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>For some, Tulum is an incredibly spiritual place. Scientists now believe that the asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs nearly 66 million years ago hit just a few kilometers off of the Yucatan Peninsula. Many people believe that energy creates a special vibe in Tulum that is uniquely peaceful.<\/p>\n<p>Liz chose Tulum because she\u2019d heard so much about it. \u201cThere is a lot of buzz surrounding Tulum for its unique culture and breathtaking attention to detail. I had to see it for myself,\u201d she says. Her highlight was swimming in three cenotes, or natural sinkholes that result when limestone bedrock collapses and exposes the groundwater below. She also enjoyed walking the city every day and enjoying the one-of-a-kind atmosphere.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6823\" src=\"https:\/\/margaretdonaldsoninteriors.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/IMG_0188.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1536\" height=\"2731\" \/> <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6822\" src=\"https:\/\/margaretdonaldsoninteriors.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/IMG_0175.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1536\" height=\"2048\" \/> <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-6817\" src=\"https:\/\/margaretdonaldsoninteriors.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/IMG_0096.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1160\" height=\"1546\" \/> <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-6816\" src=\"https:\/\/margaretdonaldsoninteriors.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/IMG_0088.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1160\" height=\"1546\" \/> <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6813\" src=\"https:\/\/margaretdonaldsoninteriors.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/IMG_0014.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1537\" height=\"2049\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As for design inspiration? \u201c Every restaurant, shop, beach, and street vendor was so curated and each with its own specific image, it was all so personal and well thought out. There was no detail missed.
