Color, even in your choice of accessories, can have a big impact on the mood of your room. Color can comfort, energize, calm, inspire and so much more. Here are some ways we’ve used color to change the mood of a room:

Our Modern Kiawah project on Kiawah Island featured one of our most dramatic uses of color. The homeowners are fun-loving, energetic and whimsical, and the apple green kitchen gives the the perfect cheerful start for the day.

This moody blue bedroom in our Southern Living Idea House says sophistication and glamor, even for the homeowner’s furry friend. The drama comes from the bold shade of turquoise furnishings that is echoed on the ceiling. The rich hue pops even more next to the crisp black finishes.

Color doesn’t have to be dramatic to create a mood. Navy blue, white and cream may be traditional in coastal interiors, but combined with black accents and West Indies style furniture, the room feels more exotic than nautical. (See more of this palette in our Surfsong Beach portfolio).

We used bold color accents in our East Cooper Eclectic home, and in our Rhett’s Bluff home on Kiawah Island. Take away the hot pink accents and you’re left with a neutral, organic palette. The hot pink sets exactly the right mood for the young family who lives there. We used spring green to the same effect at Rhett’s Bluff. The jolt of contemporary color adds sophistication and playful energy to an otherwise neutral mood.

Color and mood go hand in hand.
