E-reader aficionados are often faced with a dilemma: Keep their pre-Kindle book collection or convert to digital and donate their stash. Margaret says – keep your books. There’s something cozy about books, whether you’ve got a wall-to-wall library or a small stack of favorites on a side table. Books have some modern and surprising uses too. For example, in the Surfsong Beach project<\/a>, we covered old books with custom wraps by Juniper Books<\/a> to create a nautical shelfscape.<\/p>\n

In our Southern Living Idea House<\/a> on Daniel Island<\/a> we brought back the library. The space at the top of the stairs was perfect for a cozy reading nook and we love how much warmth and color the books add this lovely space.<\/p>\n

In our Downtown Condo project<\/a>, we used the owner’s books to create inviting reading corners and even an entire bookshelf wall.<\/p>\n

Alternate horizontal and vertical arrangements to give your display energy, and give a few special treasure plenty of space to breathe.<\/p>\n

If you are a voracious reader, you don\u2019t have to keep all of your books. Margaret\u2019s advice is to keep your favorites \u2013 the ones you enjoy reading over again and lending. Beautiful, inspiring coffee table photos books also make the cut, as do any books on local history or page-turners that guests might enjoy on an overnight stay. Books played a role in our Royal Beach project<\/a>, especially because it was built to host house guests. Books by our beloved local authors are always a welcome treat for visitors.<\/p>\n
