Margaret Donaldson Interiors was delighted to attend an event on August 29 at the Coastal Living Showhouse on Daniel Island, SC<\/a>. We enjoyed an evening of celebrating another interior design nod to the Charleston design community as we toasted our locals, Ginger Brewton and Circa Lighting<\/a> along with some of our favorite vendor sponsors such as Sunbrella<\/a> and Marvin Windows and Doors.<\/p>\n

\"Coastal<\/p>\n

Pick up a copy of Coastal Living to see the house. \u00a0Or better yet, make your way to Daniel Island, SC<\/a> and come see the interior design for yourself. We chatted about the design over lunch the following day. \u00a0At MDI, we are always talking out loud, discussing design, challenging each other to see more! Here are some thoughts from everyone.<\/p>\n

Margaret\u00a0liked the kitchen with its pale paint color on the cabinets that was a subtle contrast to the pale walls. The cabinets are painted in Sherwin Williams, Lattice 7654<\/a>. Statuarietto Marble countertops were rich and complimented the cabinets nicely.<\/p>\n

In Delta’s words, “I really liked the openness of the back entry. The staircase was full of natural light, windows everywhere. The ceiling had reclaimed wood with the clean white walls.” Having an open back entry helps it to feel like a purposeful entry point, not an afterthought. \u00a0Natural light….the more, the merrier…always! \u00a0With the abundance of reclaimed wood in today’s design world, we love to see the different ways that designers use it. Furniture, architectural accents, accessories. It is a good resource but we enjoy the challenge of figuring out fresh and new ways to use reclaimed wood.<\/p>\n

For Alexis, the use of bright colors throughout the house and the Sunbrella fabric everywhere made for a stress free, happy home for a family with kids and pets. \u00a0Creative storage such as the built in under the 2nd floor staircase takes advantage of spaces that are often overlooking. \u00a0When MDI works with a client on new construction, we are always looking for opportunities to take capture spaces such as this. \u00a0Collaborating with clients and their architects is one of our favorite parts of the job.<\/p>\n

Last but not least, Elisabeth was drawn to the dining nook. With the cool table that featured a metal base with round top and inviting slipcovered chairs from Lee Industries<\/a>, the dining nook was equally suited for a summer breakfast and a warm fall supper. The views overlooking local waterways didn’t hurt!<\/p>\n
